Hitting the Colorado ski slopes is more than fun and games—it enriches the mind, body, and soul.

Lucian Smith takes in the scenery before conquering the mountain.
This adventure sport camp for people with disabilities, held January 12-16 in Steamboats Springs, Colo., brought together skiers of various disabilities who all wanted to conquer the mountain and improve their skills. The event, a new addition to Adaptive Adventures' All Mountain Camp Series, featured amazing snow conditions and a unique sponsorship from Steamboat Powdercats, a company that takes skiers into the back-country on Sno-Cats.
"We've been doing all-mountain camps for seven years," says Adaptive Adventures Executive Director Joel Berman, who's a three-track skier due to an above-knee amputation. "For years we've wanted to come to Steamboat. Since we've teamed up with Access Anything (www.accessanything.net), things have come together. Steamboat and the community have been friendly and interested in supporting the ski camp."
Berman says Steamboat's camp has already become one of the most supported in the series, and its goal is to become the best of its kind in the country.
